Short version: Palato works fully offline. You only share data with us if you choose to create an account to back up and sync your recipes. We do not run ads, analytics, or third-party trackers, and we never sell your data.
By default, everything — your recipes, photos, meal plans, shopping lists, and the on-device "taste" preferences Palato learns from how you cook — lives only on your iPhone. Voice commands in Cook Mode are processed on-device and are never recorded or sent anywhere.
Creating a free account is optional and exists solely to back up your library and share it with family. If you do, we store:
This data is stored on our backend (Convex) and is linked to your account. It is used only to provide sync and family sharing — never for advertising or profiling.
When you use an AI feature (such as the AI Chef, Cook Now, or importing a recipe from a link or pasted text), the text you provide is sent through our backend to an AI model provider — currently Google (Gemini), Groq, or Cloudflare Workers AI — to generate a result. Some AI features (such as certain search understanding and translation) run entirely on your device and send nothing. We do not send your account identity with these requests, we do not send your content for model training, and AI features are optional.
No location, no contacts, no advertising identifiers, no usage analytics, and no third-party tracking SDKs of any kind.
You can sign out at any time, which keeps your recipes on-device and stops syncing. To permanently delete your account and the data backed up to our server, open Settings → Account → Delete Account in the app (or email us at the address below and we'll remove it).
Palato is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them.
